Godfidence

As a corporate CEO, I realized that a single-minded expectation to maximize profit was ineffective in producing the quality-of-life that people—both employees and customers—really wanted in life.

What was missing—in the teaching and practice of organizational leadership and management—was attention to the real life human and planetary relationship connections that exists within and among people—including a spiritual intelligence and maturity—and acceptance of a triple bottom-line of people, planet, and profits in corporate life.

This led me to explore more widely, including Bible Study, meditation, lectio divina, and to journalize, which led to a collection of writings that were published as the book, Godfidence, by Living Flame Press. One of the writings in Godfidence is:

A Dream About Leaders
I have a dream about the Church and Christianity.
In the dream there’s a vision of leadership in the world
where many Christians can become leaders—
At home, at work, at play, at church;
In local communities, national events, and foreign affairs;
With things that are humble as well as great.
It’s a vision which perceives
That those who truly know and follow God
Are able to be real leaders in the world.
For true leaders are people with vision
To see what is needed and what is right:
Who can mobilize other people
And all the resources necessary
To get those right things done.
Sometimes these leaders may be known only to God.
For they can work in the background—
Even performing a simple act of kindness;
Their seeing a right need and fulfilling it
Going unrecognized for the real leadership it is.
It is a dream where people look to Jesus
And not only call him Lord
But go out into cities and towns
As doers of what is needed
And what is right.
Churches, in this dream,
Are places where Christians
Are nurtured, comforted, strengthened and empowered
To go forth into the world as Christ did,
Knowing they will use many of his words as they go:
“I thirst” … “I pray” …
“Not my will, but yours be done” …
“The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak” …
“Like lambs among wolves” …
“Forgive” …
“Father, why have you forsaken me?”
“You are to be holy” …
“Love” …
All these and more
If they, if we, take up that cross and follow you.
Yet where else can we go? You have the Words of Life.
This is a dream and a prayer
That at the end we all will be able to say
It is finished.
Lord, into your hands I commend my spirit.
